Q: Is is illegal to download music, movies, games, or software?
A: Most of the time the answer to this question is yes. If you have to ask this question then the answer is yes. This is determined on a case-by-case basis and sometime if the publisher has agreed then it can be legal. Anything released under a public license or that is considered OpenSource is legal. However, this is rarely the case.
Q: How do you get caught pirating or “Illegally Downloading”?
A: There are several ways. The most common is by not protecting yourself and allowing your public ip address to be seen while in the process of downloading.

Q: How do you get caught downloading music /movies?
Q: Due to how torrents work everyone who is connected to the peer swarm can see YOUR IP address. Once they have your IP they can contact your ISP to get you information. This is why you must take steps to protect yourself.
Q: What happens if I get caught pirating?
A: This depends on many factors, in most cases nothing will happen. However, things such as fines or jail-time are not unheard of.
Q: I got a letter from my ISP what do I do?
A: In most cases nothing, it’s just a letter telling you that your ISP is aware of your activities. Simply delete the content in question and move on. The letter is just a warning that if the company decides to pursue legal action that you are now liable for damages. In any case you need to rethink your online activities.

Q: How come some people download and don’t get caught?
A: Some people go to very complex precautions in order not to get caught, some people just get really bad luck. Better to be safe then sorry.
Q: Can I get caught using a proxy ip?
A: Yes, however the effort required to track you down will make the effort a moot point. I would still suggest using a VPN.
